Who better to travel with than your BFF? So happy just to be with you, there will be no compromising on where to go, what to see. And today there are so many places to visit that are head over paws for dogs.(and even fun for their hoomans) Here are some of our faves that feature fantastic adventures, dog friendly hotels, even yappy hour!

Aspen Colorado

If you and your pal are the adventurous and outdoorsy sorts, Aspen is the place for you. In the winter enjoy the Aspen Snowmass Nordic Trail System with its many dog trails for cross-country skiing. Ski uphill with your leashed dog before the mountain opens! In the summer you and your dog cab ride the Aspen Mountain’s Silver Queen Gondola for free and hike down. Visit downtown Aspen’s Wagner Park, stop in for a homemade treat for dogs and humans at Annette’s Mountain Bike Shop, and book a room at the Little Nell. They’ll pet sit and give your dog a jet-lag kit to help with the altitude.

Carmel by the Sea, California

Rated as one of the USA’s top pooch friendly towns your beloved is welcomed everywhere in this charming seaside village- at 25 hotels, inns and B&B’s, 44 restaurants, bars and coffee houses. Check out the patio at the Carmel Coffee House and Forge in the Forest with its special dog menu. Perfect for the pampered pet, it offers many high end services including doggie spas, massages and even a dog psychiatrist. The historic Cypress Inn, which is co-owned by actress and animal rights activist Doris Day, hosts a nightly “yappy hour” for pets, has a dog-washing station in the courtyard, and offers a dog bed and water bowl at check-in. But the best part is the off leash beach- one of the few remaining in California where your dog can frolic and maybe even get to join in one of the popular organized dog parties.

The Resort Canino Can Jane, Roca Del Valles, Spain

Wow! A complete water park resort just for dogs (hoomans welcome too) Roca del Valles has won over dog lovers worldwide. This waterpark, designed exclusively for pooches includes accommodations, a dog school and of course a swimming pool complete with fountains, slides and sloping sides so that it has a gradual slope like a beach. Less than an hour’s drive from Barcelona- you can plan a day trip with your pooch.

Lake Louise: Alberta, Canada

One of the most picturesque and gorgeous places in the world with crystal blue water and soaring mountains. Lake Louise is a must-see destination for you and your pet. Stay at the famous flagship Fairmont Chateau Resort voted the number one pet-friendly hotel in Canada!  Dogs are allowed in all but one of the Fairmont’s wings, and the hotel even offers pet-sitting services. There are over 100 kilometers of trails for you and your four legged buddy to explore. Take a walk to the Lake Agnes Tea House where your dog will be welcome too!

 Portland Oregon

Portland is consistently ranked as the most dog-friendly city in the USA with over 382  restaurants and breweries that welcome dogs, over two dozen dog parks and tons of hiking trails for you and your friend. Did you know that Portland is the only place outside of France where it is OK to take your pet inside a tavern? Have a coffee at Java Hound Coffee Bar  or a beer at at Lucky Labrador Brewing, with your dog. Head down to the Tin Shed Garden Café on a Tuesday night to enjoy a free item from the dog menu for each human-friendly dish you order Stay at the Hotel Monaco, where you’ll get a yoga mat in your room, free cruiser bikes to borrow, and pet-friendly rooms at no extra cost. Your dog is even invited to the courtesy happy hour each evening in the lobby. Explore downtown’s Forest Park and take a walk on the wild side on the Wildwood Trail. Don’t miss a visit to the Red Star Tavern where your pooch will be given a homemade dog treat.

Las Ventanas al Paraiso- Los Cabos, Mexico

The ultimate in luxury, this resort provides pet cabanas, dog butlers, doggie yoga, massages, pet cuisine and more!  This dog friendly resort has it all and it only costs your cat or dog $60 per stay (not per night). There is even a special menu that chefs will prepare for the pets! Meals are served in metallic bowls with faux gemstones, bone-shaped placemats for dogs and kitty-design placemats for cats.  While you enjoy the fabulous amenities, the staff is available to walk your pooch either on the beach or in the countryside. Guests never have to wake up early to take their dogs out, or cut dinner short to walk them at night; the dog butlers handle that chore so that guests can truly relax and enjoy their vacation. Additionally, Dog Butlers can even organize birthday parties for Fido and invite his furry friends to attend.

Austin, Texas

The world’s capital of live music is also one of the world’s greatest places for canines and their hipster owners. Dogs are welcome nearly everywhere in Austin, from restaurant patios to outdoor concerts to stores. If your dog likes to swim head over to Red Bud Isle Park, one of the most popular off-leash playgrounds situated on a peninsula. For humans wanting to socialize a little too, Doghouse Drinkery Dog Park might be a better bet; this dog park also features a bar and game room. In February check out the Mardi Gras Dog Parade. And don’t miss out on the most unique activity of all-  the Congress Avenue Bridge’s famous bats—more than 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats make their home here mid-April through October. Take a dog-friendly kayak tour to see the batty scene.

This Arizona retreat’s Posh Paws programs provide everything your four-legged friend might desire: a plush pet bed, fun toys and a specialized pet menu. Staff is even available to walk your dog if you don’t feel like leaving the pool or want to check out some of the great things to do in Scottsdale. Hang out with the hotel’s canine ambassadors Bixby, a yellow Labrador retriever, and Gibbs, a red golden retriever. Bixby especially loves golf cart rides — keep a lookout for him zooming across the property!

Key West, Florida

Famous for Hemingway and his cats, Key West is decidedly a dog’s town.
